Quick Quilt Projects

Modern machine quilt projects sized for short sewing sessions, from one-evening mini quilts to weekend throws built from scraps.

Pick a project by the time you have. Each one is planned in sessions of roughly one to two hours, so you always know where to stop.

One evening

  • Mug rugs. Tiny quilts from the smallest scraps. Perfect for practising straight-line quilting.
  • Zip pouches. Quilt a panel, add a zip, done.
  • Table runners. One long row of big blocks.

A weekend

  • Strip throw. Leftover strips sewn into wide panels. See the weekend scrap strip quilt.
  • Giant half-square triangles. Eight big blocks, endless layouts.
  • Baby quilt. Large squares and a bold border.

A few weekends

  • Scrappy log cabin. Every strip length gets used.
  • Modern bed quilt. Big blocks floating in solid background fabric.

Shortcuts we use on every project

Cut in batches

Cut every piece for the whole quilt in one session. Stack and label them. Sewing sessions then go straight to the machine.

Chain piece

Sew pair after pair without cutting thread. It saves time and thread.

Press as you go

Keep a small iron or wool pressing mat beside the machine, so you never have to stand up and cross the room between seams.

Quilt in straight lines

Use a walking foot and follow the seams or a taped guide. More in the fastest way to quilt a top.
